Learn Success from Success
Napoleon Hill interviewed some of the most successful people of his time and used those interviews to write his book Think and Grow Rich. Find a successful real estate agent, treat them to lunch and ask questions about how they started off. You can also search for real estate agents on social media. Ask if they would be willing to talk with you. Prepare some questions to ask. Here is a list of questions to help you get started, but do not limit yourself to these. Everyone will have different goals; ask questions that will help you meet your goals.
How long did it take you to get a flow of steady income?
What was your biggest mistake starting off?
What benefited you the most when you started?
How do you set yourself apart from others?
Where do most of your leads come from?
What does your typical day look like?
What do you enjoy the most about being a real estate agent?
What do you dislike about being a real estate agent?
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
Once you decide to become a real estate agent, make sure you set yourself up to stand out. The broker you choose may offer some training and mentorship. Keep in mind that everyone else in your office received that same training and mentorship. Other agents are your team mates, your co-workers and can be a great value to you. But, do remember they are also your competition. Go above and beyond. Take all the training and mentorship you can get. Inside and outside of your brokerage. Read books, listen to audios, attend classes, get a personal coach and join a mastermind. There is a lot you can do.
Do not chase after every shiny object
You are building your own business, so you will need to invest your money wisely. There are a lot of products, software, training, coaching programs, client gifts, advertising tools, marketing and everything else you can think of that people will try to sell you on. Some things are well worth the investment. But you just need to be careful not to buy into too much and spend all your money before you even really get started.
The best tool is knowledge. Knowledge will help you, whether it is a new direction you are heading in or an unexpected event coming your way. Knowledge is always useful if you use it. Knowing how to do something will not help you unless you actually do it. Everyone says knowledge is power. We say using your knowledge is power. Investing in yourself will result in the highest payoff. The most valuable skill set you have and will ever have is the ability to learn and solve problems. This is why you need to focus on yourself first! Not your marketing, not your database, but you. Your business will grow as you grow. If you want to improve and grow, you will need to learn. It is the way to always discover a better way and higher quality of life.
There are ten frogs sitting on a log. If five decide they want to jump off into the nice cool pond, how many are left? Did you immediately think five? There are still ten on the log. Just because they decided they wanted to jump into the pond, does not mean they did it. They did not take the action to get what they desired. So many people fall into this category. They want something but never take action. To create a successful real estate business, you must be willing to learn what action steps you should take and then follow through. If it makes you feel uncomfortable, keep doing it.
Follow a different path
Most real estate schools would encourage to get your license first. Most real estate schools measure their success by the number of courses they sell. They will even sell you their pass rate. They will tell you all the great benefits to becoming a successful real estate agent: unlimited income potential, being your own boss, creating your own schedule, never missing your kid’s soccer game again, doing what you love, etc. And all of these things are true if you become a successful real estate agent. Merely getting a real estate license does not give you any of these things. There is a big difference in being a licensed real estate agent and being a successful, licensed real estate agent. Having a license is like having a car. It will get you nowhere if you do not know how to use it. Manfred Real Estate Learning Center is different from your traditional real estate school. We measure our success by agents who create successful careers. It may surprise you that we suggest not getting your license right away. The number one reason agents fail is that they run out of money before they are successful.
The key is understanding that success is a result of action steps created at an earlier time. The traditional path is that an agent will get their license and then start building their business. The problem with this method is that agents run out of money before they get to the first closing. We recommend you start building your business before you get your license. That way, once you get your license, you will be able to dramatically reduce the amount of time it takes to get to your first closing. With our Business Launch Course, you will be learning the techniques, the mindsets, the ins and outs, how to prospect, how to do a listing presentation, prepare scripts and so much more. We will also give action steps to start creating a database and warming up your audience before you launch your business.
One of two things will happen. You will discover that the real estate career is not for you, and you will save time and money you would’ve invested in getting your license and starting a real estate business. Or, you will move forward, get your license, get a jump-start on your career, hit the ground running and close on your first deal much quicker than by the traditional way.
